The Ministry of Kenya’s new Cabinet Secretary for Tourism, Najib Balala said: “Nairobi Restaurant Week 2016 offers the ultimate culinary experience by bringing Kenya’s vibrant dining scene to life in a diverse showcase of Nairobi’s best restaurants. With the flavours of Kenya all coming together in the country’s biggest annual celebration of food and dining, there has never been a better time to discover the tantalising sensations of eating and drinking in Kenya,”

This year, NRW2016 has teamed up with South African winemaker, Nederburg and will feature three course tasting menus priced at either $15 USD or $24 USD per person with special offers on a selection of Nederburg wines. Several restaurants will also offer a two course lunch menu for either $10 USD or $18 USD per person.

Michelle Slater, the General Manager at EatOut Kenya highlights “Nairobi is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Africa and this is visible in our ever growing, diverse culinary scene. Nairobi Restaurant Week therefore aims to celebrate the very best of food and drink in our city. Following the success of the last two annual events, we have built this year’s Restaurant Week to be bigger and better than ever.”

In a bid to promote responsible drinking, NRW2016 and Nederburg have once again partnered with taxi hailing app Uber to offer complimentary rides to new users for the duration of NRW2016.

Other sponsors include Amarula, CFC Stanbic Bank, San Pellegrino, SHK Consulting, The Star, Moyo Holidays, UP, Wrigley & Yummy Magazine.

Pope Francis to Visit Kenya in First Ever Trip to Africa

Pope Francis will visit Kenya from 25 – 27 November in his first ever trip to Africa. Nairobi will be his first stop on a three-state visit of the continent to include Uganda and the Central African Republic.

The Catholic community in Kenya accounts for an estimated 33 percent of the population. While in Nairobi, Pope Francis will hold a Mass on the campus of the University of Nairobi which is expected to be attended by 1.4 million people from across the country.

The Pope will also meet other religious leaders to discuss inclusivity and how people of all denominations can co-exist. Key discussions will include matters around climate change, strengthening family ties, and inter-ethnic tolerance.

It has been 20 years since Kenya hosted a pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church which was marked by the visit of Pope John Paul II in 1995. The nation is prepared to welcome Pope Francis with blessings and joy.
